Experience the music of plants!

The Four Seasons is a multi-space sound installation where data from the natural world becomes continuously evolving music, shaped by the changing seasons.

Expanding on Summer Song, presented in PAAM’s Sculpture Garden during the 2025 Secret Garden Tour, Attas subsequently installed Autumn Song, Winter Song, and Spring Song over the past year in the same exterior space. Bringing the four pieces together, this new installation unfolds as a four-part suite shaped by Autumn, Winter, Spring, and Summer.

Three interior galleries will feature generative sound works created from data collected across Autumn, Winter, and Spring. Each piece evolves over time, shaped by the subtle electrical energy patterns recorded from the American Elm during those seasons. Together, they form distinct yet connected listening environments, each reflecting a different phase in the annual cycle.

Summer will take place outdoors as a live installation in PAAM’s Sculpture Garden, where visitors can experience the sounds of the American Elm in real time. Again this year, the installation will coincide with PAAM’s 2026 Secret Garden Tour.

Across all four spaces, The Four Seasons creates a place for reflection, curiosity, and quiet discovery, where seasonal change becomes something you can hear.

PAAM and Aric Attas gratefully acknowledge the following donors for their generous support of this installation: (List in development; donations to support this exhibition can be made here.)

Creative Sparks Moves To Thursdays

Join us for lively and inspiring conversations about art and the creative process at Coffee House 1420, now on Thursday evenings from 6:30-8:30. Bring some new work, questions about art, fresh ideas, or just show up and participate in the group discussion. I’ll offer critique, ideas and strategies for getting ideas off the ground and into the gallery, book or other outlets.

These sessions are available to artists of all mediums. Expect a small group of 8-12 who are interested in developing their work, overcoming creative blocks and finding their way as artists. Bring your work on a flash drive (USB) or paintings, drawings, etc. We’ll review them as a group and I’ll offer suggestions for further exploration, inspiration, artists to look at and more.

Motivating Quote from Photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson

Here’s one of my favorite inspiring quotes from Henri Cartier-Bresson. It’s even better hearing him say it with his French accent. Just lovely!

Motivating quote by photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson

Sometimes we think we can create great work by making a few attempts. This quote inspires me to create lots of ideas and then choose the best, keeping in mind that sometimes I still need to keep working at it.

What inspires you to keep working?
