Symbiotic // Music With Plants

I’m an internationally recognized experimental sound artist currently working on a series of data-driven sound installations incorporating generative ambient music, data input from the natural world, including plants, and collected field recordings. Each composition tells a multidimensional story about a slice of our cosmos through data and sound. My intention is to use technology as an invitation for people to reconnect with the beauty of the natural word with a sense of curiosity, wonder and awe.

Symbiotic is a series of live generative music performances and recordings created in collaboration with plants. Through these collaborations I translate the electrical vibrations within plants into audible music creating compositions allowing us to hear the otherwise silent symphony of nature and experience our connection on an immersive level.

The music that emerges from this collaboration is deeply relaxing, well-suited for meditation, yoga, stress reduction, and creative activities. Unlike traditional recorded music, generative music exists only in the present moment, infinitely evolving through adaptive generative algorithms that respond in real-time to data received from live plants. There is no fast forward or rewind, only the present moment. What transpires is a deeper connection between ourselves and the natural world.

Have you ever truly listened to the natural world? Join us for a mindful walk into the forest, where we’ll slow down, tune in, and experience the hidden soundscape of the natural world. Using custom-designed electronics, we’ll listen to the live electrical energy patterns within local plants transformed into rich, expressive musical sounds that reveal the forest in an entirely new way. During this event you will experience these living sounds blend seamlessly with a gentle guided meditation, to create an immersive, multi-sensory journey. Rooted in curiosity, this event invites you to a deeper connection with nature, one that awakens your sense of wonder and awe for the natural world around us as a living, breathing soundscape.

Participants, please wear comfortable shoes and clothes for a short walk, and bring a chair if you’d like to sit during the listening sessions.

Speaking with the Land at the Atlantic Center for the Arts

Celebrate Earth Day at ACA!

Atlantic Center for the Arts is proud to present Speaking with the Land, an interactive and immersive outdoor experience inspired by the environmental legacy of founder, artist and environmentalist Doris ‘Doc’ Leeper. Our main campus encompasses 69 acres of wilderness, which borders the Doris Leeper Spruce Creek Preserve, is known for its biodiversity and beauty and remains a source of inspiration for the arts.

We continue to cultivate the relationship between the arts and environment with Speaking with the Land event series sharing hands-on experiences that allows a greater connection to the land with real-world success stories of hope for a better future.

Our April event is in collaboration with Volusia County Public Schools, Stetson University, The Institute for Water and Environmental Resilience, One Lagoon, Marine Discovery Center, the ShORE Symposium, Friends of Canaveral, the Southeast Volusia Audubon Society, and Volusia County ECHO/Volusia Forever.

Free and open to the public. All ages welcome.
